Personal, social and health education (P.S.H.C.E) and Citizenship enables children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society. We encourage our pupils to play a positive role in contributing to the life of the school and the wider community. We teach how society is organised and governed. We teach children of their rights and responsibilities. Children learn to appreciate what it means to be part of a diverse multicultural society and the values it reflects.
The aims of P.S.H.C.E are:
o Know and understand what a healthy lifestyle
o Be aware of safety issues
o Have respect for others
o Understand how to develop good relationships.
o Be independent and responsible members of the school community
o Develop self confidence and self esteem
o Have an awareness of different faiths and culture in our community.
Teaching and learning style
We use a range of teaching and learning styles. This includes discussions, investigations and problem-solving activities. Children are encouraged to take part in practical activities that promote active citizenship e.g. fundraising activities, schemes throughout the school that encourage positive and responsible behaviour. Teaching is always linked to Islamic Studies wherever appropriate.
P.S.H.C.E curriculum planning
P.S.H.C.E and citizenship is taught in various ways through other subjects e.g. religious education. This is due to there being an overlap between the programme of study for religious education and the aims of P.H.S.C.E and citizenship.
